TRAINING CLASSES
Post COVID, Unryu Dojo has resumed in-person classes with new health and safety protocols. Everyone is expected to play a part in maintaining a safe training environment.

In the dojo, students can learn the full range of GWNF-KJJR-JKWF martial arts. Two types of classes are routinely offered each week:
- Group classes provide instruction in the GWNF-KJJR gendai and koryu bujutsu, with rank testing when appropriate. The main focus of these classes is on learning Soke's bujutsu through partner (kumite) training. Training with an "opponent" is critical for learning how to use martial arts kata in a real attack, what Soke refers to as "true case."
- Private classes offer instruction in unarmed, sword, and staff kamae kata and datotsu sabaki waza. The main focus of these classes is on developing solo (tandoku) training skills. Refining one's skills through solo training is essential to becoming a top-grade martial artist.
"After learning the arts of war, a warrior must 'practice diligently and train deliberately.' If you forget what you have learned, it's like not having learned in the first place; and if you remember but do not practice, you will still be defenseless when action is required because you cannot apply what you have learned." |
REMOTE LEARNING (Online, via Zoom)
In addition to in-person classes, we offer students the opportunity to attend certain classes remotely. Remote learning provides a convenient way to participate in regular training. One important prerequisite: a remote student must have sufficient space to actually participate in classes. Also, remote students must be willing to follow a hybrid learning model, which includes occasional attendance at Group classes (offered weekly) or Training Camp weekends (offered quarterly). Begin by contacting the dojo-cho to discuss your goals.
